Men Now Look To Reverse Signs Of Aging

Garcia said he liked the results Botox gave him, and returned to Dr. Milan Shah at Beautologie for his second treatment.

"I'm the type of person who always liked to look kinda of good," Garcia said. "Now that I'm aging, I want to make sure I continue to look good."

Garcia is part of a growing trend. Doctors said men are increasingly looking to reverse the signs of aging.

"I would say, right now in our practice, one out of six to seven patients is male. It's becoming a lot more common to see the male patient in our practice both on the surgical and non-surgical side," said Shah.

In fact, the number of men undergoing minimally-invasive procedures such as Botox, laser procedures and fillers--is up nearly 50 percent from nine years ago, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

"It establishes more self-confidence," said Shah.

Dr. Shah also attributes the increase to the little amount of time it takes to get the procedures done.

"It's an in-and-out procedure, takes a few minutes and you're back on your feet, very little down time," he said.

Macho and metro-sexual men wanting to freshen up their looks are joining in on the trend.

"Just your average business men and even blue collar worker," said Shah.

"It's not about being manly. It's about looking good, in general," said Garcia. "Whether it's plucking your eyebrows, trimming your hair too short it's mainly looking good.

"Dr. Jim Knoetgen, a board-certified plastic surgeon, said he is seeing twice as many men compared to a few years ago, wanting to go under the knife to improve their appearance.

"I'd say the three most popular procedures I am performing on men today would be liposuction, male chest reduction surgery, and then body contouring after weight lost," said Knoetgen.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the top four male cosmetic surgical procedures in 2009 were nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, liposuction and breast reduction.
