Breast Augmentation
As one of the most popular cosmetic procedures we deliver, breast augmentation at Beautologie is done to achieve natural, comfortable results in an environment that promotes healing and betterment.
- Breast augmentation is a 1-hour procedure performed under general anesthesia.
- You have a choice of saline (water filled, more round, adjustable sizes) or silicone implants (softer, less rippling).
- Silicone implants are now made of “cohesive gel” that does not leak like the old liquid gel of the past, therefore they are safer and now approved by the FDA.
- The recovery for breast augmentation is about 2-3 days; most people go back to work within a week! However, you must be careful and not lift anything heavy for at least 3-4 weeks after surgery.
- The most common incision used for breast augmentation is the one in your breast fold. It is a small, well-hidden incision that fades away nicely in most cases.

Reasons to Consider a Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation (or breast implants) is basically using implants to augment the size of the breasts or to fill in loose skin. Women choose to do breast augmentation for many reasons. In general, we see women with the following concerns seek out breast augmentation in Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton with one or more of the following concerns:
Small breasts or concern with breast shape
This category of woman basically describes a person that feels that her breasts do not fit her body frame or do not fit in clothes the way she would like them to. Most of these women are A or B cup to start with and never developed enough breast tissue to satisfy where their desired look of a rounder, fuller breast. It is important to know that breasts start to grow between the ages of 7 to 13, and continues to grow up to the age of 18. We generally do not perform breast augmentation until after the age of 18, unless there is a concern with “tubular breasts” or breast shape that is abnormal and causing depression or other psychological concerns. At Beautologie, one of our Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton breast augmentation surgeons will do a thorough evaluation utilizing body measurements and suggest sizes that will fit your body frame. Implants come in many different shapes and sizes, so we will spend significant time with you to explain the shape and size change you will experience. You will also try on the implants to assure you have a good idea of the beautiful change that is about to occur.
A personal desire for larger breasts
Many women, despite having a size that many would consider “fine” have the personal desire to be larger. They feel that larger breasts are “sexier” and would look great in clothes. In addition, they love the “augmented” full look. This is perfectly reasonable, especially in our sunny state of California, where bikini’s are the norm and breast implants look great to fill out the shape of the upper body. Some women may already have implants, and choose to fill them or go to a larger implant. At Beautologie we offer the best breast implants Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton has to offer and we will help you make good decisions to get the look you desire, while ensuring long lasting and safe results.
Empty skin envelope after pregnancy or weight loss
This is the most common reason our surgeons perform breast augmentation. After pregnancy (and especially after breast feeding), a woman’s breast actually loses tissue as the brain signals the breast to stop producing milk. This tissue loss causes a visible size decrease in the breast, as well as loose skin. Weight loss causes similar concerns, since the breast is mostly made up of fatty tissue. Implants do a great job of re-filling the skin envelope and restoring the youthful appearance to the breast. Our doctors use breast implants for this concern every day, and we have helped 1000’s of women reverse the effects of pregnancy on their bodies. Breast asymmetry
Almost every woman is asymmetric to begin with. If you look in the mirror long enough, you will see that one nipple is lower than the other, one breast is smaller than the other, and one breast is actually attached lower on your body than the other (the breast fold is lower on one side than the other). There are different degrees of asymmetry, with most women having a barely perceptible difference. However there are many women that have a greater degree of asymmetry and putting in different size implants is the easy solution to this problem. Some woman may require a change in the skin envelope of one or both breasts as well (a lift) to achieve better symmetry. Beautologie plastic surgeons will show you the different options you have to regain symmetry, as we specialize in this concern. Realistically, it is impossible to be perfectly symmetric, but we can get you very close! Tubular breasts
This is a developmental (congenital) abnormality that occurs in 1-5% of people. It is defined as having a combination of the following characteristics: enlarged puffy areola, wide space between the breasts, minimal breast tissue, ptosis (sagging), high breast fold, and a narrow base of the breast. The psychological impact of this condition is often devastating to women, and breast augmentation, sometimes combined with other procedures, provides good correction. Our Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton breast augmentation surgeons are experts at correcting tubular breasts at Beautologie, and will guide you through this reconstructive process.
Nipple abnormalities
Although conditions like inverted nipples or large nipples can be treated without implants, usually women will choose to place implants at the same time as this correction to improve the overall shape of the breast. Inverted nipples are corrected by releasing tissue bands under the nipple and using the implant to “push” the tissue outward. Large nipples are treated by reducing the size surgically with a “flap” technique. Small nipples are difficult to correct, and sometimes require fat injection or reconstruction. Breast Implant revision
Many women have had implants for years and now have sagging or shape change due to the effects of time and gravity. Some women have experienced complications such as:
- bottoming out
- capsular contracture
- double bubble
- position issues
- implant rupture or symmastia
Our Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton breast augmentation surgeons are true experts at fixing these problems, and look forward to helping you make the positive changes you deserve.
Breast Augmentation Incisions
There are several incisions that may be used in breast augmentation surgery. Each one depends on your body type and the implant chosen, as well as your personal preference. Regardless of the incision’s location, our doctors are experts in precise closing techniques. This means that over time, the scars will fade and become almost invisible.
Breast augmentation incisions options include:
Inframammary
This is an incision in the crease under the breast. This is the most common incision we use because it is well hidden, fades away to where it is barely noticeable, and provides the easiest recovery and least amount of complications.
Transaxillary
This is an incision in your armpit area. This incision is far away from the breast space, and is not recommended due to the highly visible location, post operative pain and higher rate of complications.
Periareolar
This is an incision made around the bottom or the top half of your areola. This incision is sometimes used, but it does cause more loss of sensation. It is the 2nd most commonly used incision. The recovery period is longer after a periareolar breast augmentation because you have to go thorough the breast tissue. There is also a slight increase in the rate of complications versus the inframammary incision.
Transumbilical (TUBA)
Historically, saline implants were rarely inserted using a long hollow tube from the belly button all the way to the chest. This is a very dangerous form of breast augmentation, with a high degree of complications. We do not recommend this incision location.
Scar healing process with an inframammary incision
This incision is made in the crease beneath the breast. It's the most commonly used incision because it's discreet, fades to being barely noticeable, and allows for the easiest recovery with minimal complications.
Breast Implant Types
At Beautologie Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Aesthetics, we are proud to offer a wide array of breast implant options that represent the latest in implant technology, so if you're looking for breast implants in Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton this is the place to go.
Depending on a patient's desires and body type, our surgeon places saline or silicone breast implants either under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. In consultation with our doctor at our office you will discuss all of the options available for breast augmentation surgery and breast implants. In general, we have great success and patient satisfaction with the incision placed under your breast fold. In addition, we generally recommend silicone implants for people seeking a more natural result. Also, we feel the safest and most long lasting technique is to place the implant under the muscle, which protects the implant from sagging, rippling, and scar tissue. Patients are assured that they will receive all the information they need and skilled guidance from our surgeons so that they can achieve the best possible results. We want our patients to feel they received the best breast augmentation Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton provides.
Saline breast implants
Saline breast implants are essentially a silicone bag that is filled with a sterile saline after placement within the breast tissue or behind the chest muscle. Because saline implants are filled after placement, scarring is minimal.
Silicone breast implants
Silicone breast implants were approved with a much better safety profile by the FDA in 2006. Because they are filled with silicone instead of saline, they have a texture that more closely resembles that of natural breast tissue. Silicone implants are now made with a cohesive gel, which is different from the liquid silicone of the past. The implant can be literally cut in half, and it will stick together like a "gummy bear".
Fat Transfer to Breast
The procedure is performed by removing fat from other areas of the body via liposuction and injecting it into the breasts. Good candidates for this procedure are women who are looking for a small increase in breast size and a natural look.
Before your Surgery
Our plastic surgeons meet all of our patients who desire breast augmentation for a comprehensive consultation to decide which procedure and breast implants will provide the best results. During your consultation, we will have a discussion of what you desire, we will make measurements on your body frame, and then show you many before and after pictures to be sure we understand what "look" you are going for. Based on this information, our skilled surgeons outline the course of treatment that best suits the patient's goals and body type. You will also try on the implants in different sizes recommended for you at the time of the consult. We feel that it is important that our patients be informed of all of their treatment options so they can reach an informed decision. We strive to give our patients the best breast implants Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton has to offer, with end results they will love.
Patients must avoid taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs for at least 10-14 days prior to breast augmentation surgery due to the blood-thinning effect of these medications. Patients who smoke cigarettes are also asked to stop for at least four weeks prior to and after the procedure because smoking complicates the healing process.
Patients who undergo breast augmentation surgery should wear loose-fitting clothing on the day of their procedure, and they must arrange for transportation home after surgery. Further instructions will be provided during the consultation.
Recovery and Result
The initial post-surgical recovery from a breast augmentation procedure generally takes anywhere from 24 to 72 hours. Some minor swelling and soreness will likely persist for a few weeks. Beautologie advises patients on a case-by-case basis when they can fully resume their normal daily activities. Achieving final results takes a number of weeks to a few months.
