Wrinkle Relaxers
BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport and Jeuveau™ are injectable substances made from naturally occurring neormuscular relaxants. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a highly diluted form of a toxin that has been proven to be safe and that was approved for use in cosmetic treatments by the FDA in 2002. BOTOX® injections are used to relax facial muscles to prevent the formation of fine line wrinkles. Because facial muscles cannot contract after treatment with BOTOX®, the injections temporarily smooth out and ease the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face. BOTOX® injections are often used in conjunction with, or in replacement of, many facial cosmetic surgery treatments such as facelift, brow lift, and eyelid surgery. All the wrinkle relaxers are also used as part of a total plan developed by Beautologie to help prevent the signs of aging. Wrinkle Relaxer Procedure
During the BOTOX® Cosmetic or other wrinkle relaxer procedure, a Beautologie professional will determine where to administer the injections by asking the patient to contract his or her facial muscles. He/She then uses an extremely thin, tiny needle to inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that are causing the wrinkles and lines on the face. Anesthesia is not required since the procedure is quick and relatively pain free.
Beautologie makes comfort and healing a priority with injectable treatments. Our Aesthetic Medicine Professionals offer a topical cream that numbs while promoting healing and reducing bruising. The entire BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure takes just a few minutes, and patients can resume their normal activities immediately after treatment. Because of this, the treatment is usually considered a "lunchtime" procedure.
Benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport and Jeuveau™
BOTOX® Cosmetic has become one of the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments on the market because of its many benefits. Many people choose to undergo BOTOX® injections because of their quick ability to subtract years off the appearance of an aging face. Individuals with dynamic wrinkles caused by facial expressions can eliminate creases around their eyes and mouth for up to four months with BOTOX® injections. In addition, BOTOX® Cosmetic can reduce the appearance of permanent wrinkles on the forehead and in between the eyebrows. BOTOX® injections can also be used by individuals who desire more contour in their face. Patients with square shaped faces who desire a more oval-shaped facial appearance can receive BOTOX® injections to reduce the size of their chewing muscles. This results in a more curved cheek. Botox® and the other wrinkle relaxers can also be used to soften neck lines. We also use BOTOX® to reduce sweating in the hands and the armpits.
We also offer alternatives to BOTOX® injections known as fillers: Restylane®, Bellafill®, and JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel treatments are some examples. If you're looking to receive BOTOX® in Bakersfield, please contact Beautologie Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Aesthetics for more information on these dermal fillers.
How does it work?
Wrinkle relaxers are as group of products that help to soften "active wrinkles,” which are the wrinkles that occur in your forehead or around your eyes when you clench those facial muscles. They work chemically by blocking specific nerve impulses to the muscles that cause these wrinkles. By blocking the nerve impulses, the muscles are unable to make a strong contraction, thus preventing the lines from deepening and becoming permanent wrinkles. It is important to note that we are not eliminating normal facial expression, just the deep lines that go along with the expressions that develop over time. The long-term benefit of this is that the lines will not imprint permanently into the skin.
How long does it last?
BOTOX® Cosmetic typically lasts 3-4 months after the initial treatment, if properly performed using non-diluted new product, and using the correct dosage in the administered areas. The good news is after repeated treatments at our Bakersfield practice, the muscles tend to stay relaxed for a longer period of time, resulting in a longer duration of effect. It is important to see a properly trained professional to make sure you are not getting a "cut-rate" treatment, where the product is diluted or "spread out" over a large area. At Beautologie in Bakersfield, our professional injectors create the longest possible duration by utilizing a methodology that involves creating the optimal treatment in the area you are looking to improve.
Botox® Costs
The cost of Botox® and other wrinkle relaxers usually varies from person to person, and the number of areas to be treated and how strong the muscles are that need to be relaxed. Many practices price Botox® by the unit. We have found that this often results in compromising the treatment, and unhappy patients if the Botox® wears out to soon or doesn’t have the desired effect. At Beautologie here in Bakersfield, our per area pricing, Botox® club, and package pricing allows us to do the maximal treatment while saving you money. Frequently Asked Questions
What are the different Wrinkle Relaxers used at Beautologie and how are they different?
At Beautologie we have the Luxury to use all three Neurotoxins or Wrinkle Relaxers that are FDA approved in the United States. Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport® and Jeuveau®. There are made by Allergan, Galderma, Merz, and Evolus Pharmaceuticals respectively. All three products are in face very similar in there duration in action, chemical composition and effect. They all come from the same source, Clostridium Botulinum and produced as botulinum toxin type A. The products work by temporarily relaxing the targeted muscle thereby smooth out associated active lines. There are a few slight variances between the products, however. Patients often report that the Dysport may spread a little better or work a little quicker. If a patient develops a tolerance to one of the wrinkle relaxers another one can be used. Dysport and Botox speak to the potential longer duration of action of these two products.
What areas can Wrinkle Relaxers/Neurotoxins be used to achieve Aesthetic Benefits?
Although the most common areas we use wrinkle relaxers are the frowns lines or elevens, the crows feet and forehead creases, as seen above we also use them to go after bunny lines, under eyes, lip lines on occasion, to lift the jowls and even to relax the muscles in the neck. Also Botox can be used to target migraine headaches and reduce excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the underarms (axilla), palms of the hands and soles of the feet.
Do patients look frozen or expressionless after a Wrinkle Relaxer Treatment?
Not when the treatment is performed by one of Beautologie’s highly trained Injectors. When the correct dose is administered in the proper location patients’ leave with a very natural and more youthful look. The point of the treatment is to minimize the progression of active lines by essentially “stopping the clock”. Our goal is to minimize the appearance of the lines that come along with certain expressions (Laughing/ Frowning/ Squinting, etc.….) not stop the expression itself. Our Patients will still be able to smile; squint, etc.…just not have the lines that go along with these expressions after the treatment.
What is the difference between Wrinkle Relaxers and Facial Fillers?
Although both are injectable treatments commonly performed at the office, wrinkle relaxers are meant to go after active lines, lines that come about with certain expressions, whereas facial fillers go after passive lines, lines that are etched into the skin regardless of the expression. Fillers are also used to restore volume back into areas of the face that has lost it through natural aging. As a general rule wrinkle relaxers are used in the upper portions of the face and fillers the lower portions however there is a bit of overlap as seen in the following diagram. The combination of wrinkle relaxers and facial fillers very often give patient s the best results!
